5 Ayurvedic Habits That Changed My Hormones (and My Life) | Yogatation

I used to feel like my hormones were sabotaging me. My cycle was all over the place. My mood could switch on a dime. I was bloated, exhausted, and emotionally fried. I tried supplements, apps, and endless Googling... but what finally helped? Ayurveda.

These five habits changed my life—and my hormones. They're now daily rituals I teach every woman who joins my coaching programs. Let me break them down for you so you can try them too.

1. Warm Lemon Water First Thing in the Morning

Forget caffeine on an empty stomach. This Ayurvedic habit supports your digestion, liver, and lymphatic system. It helps:

  • Flush toxins

  • Support liver detox (key for estrogen balance)

  • Boost metabolism gently

Try it: Squeeze half a lemon into warm (not boiling) water and sip before anything else.

2. Abhyanga: Self-Oil Massage

I know it sounds weird at first, but trust me: this practice changed everything. It calms the nervous system, improves circulation, and deeply nourishes the skin (our largest detox organ!).

  • Use warm sesame or almond oil

  • Massage in long strokes on limbs, circular on joints

  • Let sit for 10-20 minutes before showering

Benefits?

  • Less anxiety

  • Softer skin

  • Deeper sleep

3. Eating Warm, Cooked Meals with Spices

Raw smoothies and salads might look healthy, but they can overwhelm your digestive fire—especially if you're Vata- or Pitta-prone. Once I switched to cooked, spiced meals, my bloating vanished, my cycle regulated, and I had more energy.

Top healing spices: cumin, fennel, coriander, ginger, turmeric.

Try kitchari, spiced oatmeal, or soups based on your cycle phase.

4. Resting with the Sun

Ayurveda emphasizes syncing with nature’s rhythm. That means winding down when the sun sets and avoiding late-night overstimulation. When I committed to a 9:30/10 PM bedtime:

  • My cortisol rebalanced

  • I stopped waking up wired

  • My cycle became more predictable

This one habit alone supported my estrogen-progesterone rhythm.

5. Building Sacred Stillness into My Day

Whether it’s meditation, breathwork, or just quiet tea time—this daily moment of stillness became my anchor. Ayurveda isn’t just about what you eat; it’s about how you feel.

Calming the nervous system allows your hormones to recalibrate.

Even 5 minutes can:

  • Lower stress hormones

  • Improve insulin sensitivity

  • Reduce PMS and cycle pain

These habits might sound simple—but simple works when done consistently.

I’m living proof.
