What is my Yoga Teacher Saying? - What does the saying "Love and Light” really mean? | Yogatation

Updated: May 1, 2021

Hi Beautiful Soul!

Welcome to a new series called: What is my Yoga Teacher Saying?!

If you are like me, most of the time, during my practice I get lost. Lost in the movement and flow of the practice. Tuning into my breath and feeling my body flow in and out of the asanas. But, every so often, I would get snapped back to reality by something that my teacher would say!

A word or phrase would hit me ever-so-right and I would be like "wait what?"

So, within this series, I am going to take us through a word or phrase that is used by many but understood by few.

So, in today's installment, we are going to talk about a personal favourite: Love & Light.

If you have taken one of my Yoga classes, either in-person, virtual or on-demand, then you have heard me say this phrase. I love this phrase. So much so that I had a local business create a hoodie with this phrase on it custom for me <3

So, let's break it down, shall we!

The first known use of this phrase was in 1813, according to Merriam-Webster and was defined as: the radiance of affection.

Love and Light are both energies. Energy does not have any time or space constraints (unlike our physical senses) but they do have power and they are different.

Love

This is a word that we all seem to be familiar with. We use Love as part of our human emotional experience; however, it is so much more. “Love” is actual energy in the universe. It is within and around us, it is an integral part of the universe and us as a whole. We use it in an association with an emotion, but it is broader than just something we feel towards other people or things.

The energy and vibration of love are that of creation. It is through this energy that we label “love” that we can manifest and create in this dimension. When we feel Love, we’ve attuned to the vibration of the energy of Love. It is the most potent source of all vibrations; it can change a moment in time from chaos to peace. Nothing is grander than sharing, feeling, or experiencing the vibration of Love. When you send someone love you are sending the frequency of creation. What more powerful a source than to help others manifest their desires?

Light

Light is the energy and frequency of all-knowing wisdom. Light, in a spiritual sense, unlike Light from the sun, is more of a spiritual conversation and has a precise meaning. Light brings with it information and helps us gain wisdom.

To live in the Light means that the vibration of the all-knowing, and all-wise shines from within. When you send someone Light, or someone offers you Light, it means the frequency of wisdom is offered to you.

Therefore, when you are offering someone “love and light” you are offering them the frequencies of creation and wisdom. How beautiful is that?!

So, how do you send "love & light"?

Here are 6 steps to help you send some energy:

  1. Focus your attention on your heart. Breathe into your heart space and clear your mind.

  2. Think of the person or persons that you wish to send this energy to

  3. Think of the times that you felt truly loved. Allow those feelings to radiate in your heart and fill your body

  4. Imagine the person that you brought to mind, standing in front of you. From your heart, pour your energy into theirs, imagining a rainbow of love from yours to theirs

  5. Be sure that you are feeling the feelings that you are sending. Bad energy sends bad vibes

  6. Feel your heart open and expand as you feel the other person receive and accept your energy and love

I hope this simple breakdown of "what is my Yoga Teacher saying" was helpful?!

Please remember that words have power and the energy you feel will be transferred to whoever you are sending your energy to. If you do not feel it, they will not either!

Yoga is YOUR practice, YOUR time, YOUR journey. Let it be what YOU need it to be. Step on your mat and Let it all Go.
